The client was clear and focused on his requirements, wanting to create something out of the ordinary to modernise the existing 3 bedroom semi detached house. We faced some challenges with limited space to the side of the property restricting the internal width of the WC and utility and also the slope of the site resulting in a big drop from inside to inside at the rear. The client decided on a split level open plan space to reduce the overall drop externally.
The final design provides a stark contrast to the traditional red brick semi detached house with an offset ridgeline, blue engineering brick being used for the ground floor extension and standing seam cladding proposed for the dormer. The modern style continues inside with exposed steel beams, no skirting boards or architraves and a sleek streamline kitchen.
The client’s attention to detain has resulted in a modern bold extension with clean lines and contemporary finishes.
