We were appointed by the client to reconfigure the ground floor layout of their house. They wanted to create an open plan kitchen, dining area and form a better connection with the rear garden
Our clients were very sociable people who loved to entertain family and friends. They wanted to reconfigure the space they had in order to create a more open plan feel and a better flow to their home. The initial design included the removal of a wall between the kitchen and dining area and alterations to the utility to include a WC. Once we had finalised the plans we coordinated with the engineer and finalised the construction information.
Soon after, the clients made contact with Channel 4, George Clarke’s Old House, New Home, and their project was selected to be included in an episode of the show.
The clients met with George and it was agreed the extents of the project would be increased to include the removal of a chimney breast between the front lounge and kitchen to provide views through the entire house and across the river Mersey. This required extensive structural work given the staircase was acting as a buttress between the staircase and party wall increasing the costs significantly. The clients made the decision to proceed with the work given it would be a once in a lifetime project.
The deadlines were extremely tight to fit in with the programme schedule, but after quickly reconsulting with the engineer and updating the construction information, the builder commenced work on site.
We visited site throughout the build, checking in with the clients and maintaining a line of communication with the builders. The builder pulled out all the stops and completed the project in time for filming and the show was aired in June 2019.
To date the clients are still extremely happy with their reconfigured space!
